Spyware Virus

Dear All,

I have a spyware virus on my PC. Brought Norton Anti Virus and we have finally found the nasty file to delete but when we try to delete the file it says it is read only and cannot be deleted. Is this the case because it is in use so to speak? Any advice truely welcome.

Try deleting it in Safe Mode click here

If it still won't budge use Remove on Reboot click here

I may be wrong but you seem to be mixing up terminology here.

A virus is a virus and requires anti-virus software to (hopefully) remove it from your PC.

Spyware is a different beast altogether and requires anti-malware/anti-spyware software to remove.

If it is spyware try AdAware click here
or Spybot click here or MS AntiSpyware click here
or SpywareBlaster (which prevents malware getting on your PC in the first place) click here

Yes, I agree with you, but there is a but....

Morgsy has said that Norton Anti-Virus has found the troublesome file

But I still agree with you Jackcoms. Morgsy HAS posted "spyware virus"...

Morgsy, it is either a virus or spyware (if Norton has found it it is a virus, thus the title of the program "Anti-Virus")

It has found the file - just delete it.

Norton (and many other) AVs now detect adware, spyware etc. but do not seem that good at removing them.

Morgsy has already stated about Norton AV:

"when we try to delete the file it says it is read only and cannot be deleted".

The anti-malware programs I suggested MAY be able to remove the offending item if it is malware/spyware.
