if i purchase full version of spyware doctor with anti virus do also need another anti virus installed any help would be gratefully recieved

Spyware Doctor is not an Anti Virus, it protects against malware not Virus. You need to load a seperate antivirus.

The rule is only 1 anti-virus program so you should be fine with just the new version of Spyware Doctor.

I wonder if it is similar to Ad Aware 2008 that looks for virus, but is not really an AV

Yes I think that is the best idea, I wouldn't want to trust it alone at the moment until we can get confirmation either way.
