MY computer seems to be running okay, but msn messenger stops responding, and the desktop background has gone. Please help

If this is an XP system, then try a system restore. Can you get the desktop background back by right clicking on a blank part of the desktop and selecting "Properties - Desktop"?

it's an ME system, and no, the desktop tab does not appear on properties for some reason

Try System Restore - it is available in ME.

system restore doesn't work either, I re-installed windows, and am still getting the same problems

When you reinstalled Windows, was this a clean reinstallation after formatting the hard drive, or did you reinstall over the old installation?

I re-installed over the old version

Reinstalling over the old version will only overwrite defective Windows files. Any other files or data will be left intact. The only way to be absolutely certain of a clean start is to backup all your important files and data, make a note of your internet settings and then reformat and reinstall everything.

okay, but I just found out that I have a trojan file on my computer, and I think that's what's causing the problem
