Spot the difference - A laptop purchasing decision

Hi everyone. Been a while since I have visited the forums. Currently looking at a laptop for a friend that we are trying to work out which to choose the laptops we are looking at are on a budget of £400 and has to be purchased for these stores due to it being half purchased with gift vouchers for the stores (PCworld, currys, dixons, comet).

The machines we are looking at are the Compaq CQ60 218 from PC world for £349.99 - link below

and the Compaq CQ60 212EM from Comet for £329.99 - link below

However, the issue we are having is working out what exactly makes these machines different. We have looked on the Compaq website and as far as we can tell the only difference between them seems to be the inclusion of "Symantec™ Norton Internet Security™ 2009" which seems to suggest it is a full subscription rather than the usual bundled 60 day trial with the 212em model. We have looked in store and the chassis appears to be the same between the 2 systems right down to the port locations. Annoyingly the staff at both stores give us the usual "well our one is better, we are on commission so we will say it is needlessly" and have provided little help.

Can anyone help shed some light on the situation because at the moment the machine from Comet is winning out just based on price. But we can't seem to think of any reason there is a difference in model number other than the possibility of retail chain specific stock to prevent other stores price beating offers.
