spool32 error occasionally on startup

Error message appears when W98 is booting up and just before McAfee VirusScan loads. When this is cancelled system does not close down but if not re-started errors do appear although not associated with printing. Re-starting solves the problem but the initial error is frustrating. Can this be eliminated? Computer is new - 1300MHz AMD Duron processor, 44GB hard drive, 256MB memory module, main circuit board K7VM2 2.00.

It is caused by printer. I had this problem but it seems to have cleared up by itself. I always had to re-boot whe I got the spooll 32 message or the computer would freeze. The printer icon usually did not appear on the tool bar. Maybe one of the Microsoft updates fixed it.

Is your printer switched on before the computer boots up? If not, try switching it on before boot. If it is, try not switching on until after boot up.

If neither of those work, remove all references to the printer(s) and then re-install their drivers and all associated software (ink monitors and things).
