Speed on Internet

I have subscribed to Broadband which will take effect on the 29th.

Meanwhile I have cancelled my subscription to Evesham, giving the required 30 days notice.

However since doing that the speed on the internet is appalling! Is this a silly thought - could Evesham somehow have shifted me onto an inferior 'branch' or something? Or could something on my computer have suddenly affected the speed?

I have to say, I am also using Freeserve which is also slow, which makes me wonder about the cause being something suddenly affecting my computer?

Any thoughts welcome!

Erh you do not say what connection speed you have
and method at present for connecting to web.

Which Windows are you running ?

If your using a modem, there should be an icon on your screen down near the clock, we call this the system tray.

If when your online and you place your mouse arrow over his it should pop up a bytes sent, bytes recieved then give another figure this is measured in Kbps.

anything between 45000 - 52000 is good well I think its fair anyway.

if you have another PC near by, try your that internet line on there and compare speeds

The speed is generally around 45333. Interestly I have removed some of the icons belonging to programmes running in the back ground and this has made a dramatic difference. I think I shall play around with that aspect and see if that is the culprit.

It may well be as my son has downloaded some programmes which I am not familiar with.

Thanks for your thoughts, I shall let you know my conclusion.

Yes, I think this is the problem. In particular a programme called 'P2p networking' whatever that is.

The internet is fairly zipping along now without this programme running. Anyone know what it is? I suspect it is something to do with Kazza?

unless you are on a home network, it will be kazza or a similar program (morpheous, winMX etc)

Kazza drags into your computer if left, Virus's and porn sites

Yes P2p is the problem.

Thanks for all the replies.
