Speed up downloads using Broadband

  paracox 10:16 07 Nov 2004

Does anyone know if there are any software that could help speedup downloads or must one uprate to 1Mb or higher subscriptions from a 512k?
Weary of anything that will screw up connections?

Try these tips to Boost your Broadband.

Some of these items won't exist in the registry so create them. If they are present then right click them.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters.

Change the TTL setting (time to live) to DefaultTTL = 128 (decimal). Then amend the following setting to read EnablePMTUBHDetect = 0.

Now alter the size of the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit), which is the size limit of data packets sent over the internet. Change EnablePMTUDiscovery = 1. Then amend GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = 32767 (decimal.

Set the limit before fast retransmit is activated, by creating a DWORD Value TcpMaxDupAcks, with a value of 2.

Enable support for selective acknowledgements by creating a DWORD called SackOpts, and give it a value of 1

Control time stamps by adding a DWORD called Tcp13230pts with a value of 1.

Initially set TcpWindowSize to 32767 (decimal). Experiment with other settings such as 93440, 186880 or 372300 as this may improve speed.

Do a search on the forum using Onspeed...:-)

The Registry tweak I mention offers virtually the same advantages and it's FOC.

Better spending the £24.99 on Guinness.
