sound problem

My computer runs xp athlon proccessor with the sound built into the mainboard have just lost all sounds including windows sound have checked audio settings and evrything checks ok Im running xp home by the way is the fault more likely to be hardware related

Well to make sure it isn't a software issue roll back to a earlier version, so use the go-back facility in xp. Then if it still persist post again. But try run>dxdiag and tes the sound

Cables, Connections, Speaker Power supply. When you have checked these it is time to see if any internal connections have come loose.

Checked all connections even trid other speakers
evrything looks ok with connections internaly ran dxdiag got failure at step19 = error 0x00000000
do you think installing a seperate sound card would fix prob

Have you tried plugging headphones into the output socket on the back of your pc? Beware sound can be very loud here.
