sound and memory settings in the bios

Hi, I have tried to upgrade my kids old p2 400 pc by putting xp on it and improving the memory, they only use it for the net,
the first problem is the sound does not work at all, I have checked in the control panel and it is not there, it says it is not connected. The second problem is I upgraded the memory and it still only registers that there is a 64 meg stick in the slot instead of the 512 I put in. I have a feeling it is a bios problem and have looked there but nothing obvios has jumped out, can anyone plases give me clue where to look.

Very likely that the machine will not accept 512mb RAM in a slot given its age.

Can't think why the sound'll not work though...

Hi, I don't think that the 400 can accept more than 64Mb ... you had best have a read of this, should answer a lot of your questions ...

I think you are right about the memory, but still no sound

Sound problem - have you checked that the on-board sound is Enabled in the BIOS?
