It is onboard sound, You should go to Manufacturers site for all drivers

thanks, it was soo close.
but it said if you want to install, pressed yes.
gets to the end then tells me the device doesnt exist or has been removed manually!!!

what do i do?

Go to start menu/run,type

devmgmt.msc

press return.

How many red and yellow warnings do you see, what devices are they warning about. Sounds as though chipset drivers haven't been installed.

Maybe its the wrong driver. When I visited the link given by brundle one part said it was the C-Media WDM sound driver and below it stated "The IntelĀ® Pro/100 VE LAN drivers are supplied pre-installed on your computer......"
I see there is also a C-Media High Definition Audio driver for download.
You need to run a diagnostic program which will list all hardware on your motherboard, something like Everest click here
