Sony DVD Burner fault - why won't it work?

Hi,

I have a sony vaio pc about 3 years old. The DVD burner will burn data dvd's but only with the Veritas software that came with the pc, not with any other of the many programmes I have purchased and downloaded. More importantly It has never burnt a video dvd. Whenever i get to the start burn part the computer asks to insert a blank dvd and never recognises anything I put in there. I have updated the drivers which were very difficult to find and this has made no difference. Is there anything I'm doing wrong or has missed?

it is a sony DVD RW DW-U12A 2.0e

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Michael

What are the OTHER programs?

What type of Video content, home movies or something else?

Obviously the drive recognises blank DVDs otherwise Veritas would not use them.

Are you sure you are using the correct type of disk - PLUS or MINUS format?
