Have just been issued new laptop (compac EVO N620c)from work, pre-configuered to company standards (whatever that may mean). I have admin rights for the next few days to install client specific software. Although it has a DVD rom drive fitted, it will not play DVD movies - - what software do I need to load, "discreetly", in order to do this ?

You need a software dvd player. But your employers may take a dim view of it. Personal software on company laptops is a real pain in the neck when it comes to auditing licences.

my point exactly, hence the 'discreetly' bit. however, I can 'almost' justify it as I 'may' get one or two training DVD's to watch.

You need something like this click here It will also install the necessary files to enable you to use Windows Media Player

But if anyone did it here without permission they would forfeit the laptop. I would advise caution. You cannot "hide" software from the audit tools now available.

Why don't you find a good reason to get one or two training videos issued to yourself first, and then ask your IT department to get them running on your laptop so you can review them at home?
