Software explorerer and disabling startup progs

  mooly 13:05 14 May 2009

After initial booting and opening task manager I find three different entries for Acronis running and one for Adobe.
Opening defender and software explorer and the option to selecting these items with a view to disabling them at startup is greyed out. Using msconfig I appear to be able to prevent them running but here it says that this should not be used as a method of doing this. Any reason why, and whats the correct method.

This method works on all versions of Windows, including Vista. Scroll down

Brilliant... priveledges weren't high enough to disable those items from defender. Using "all users" in defender and it works, so re enabled in msconfig, rebooted and turned off from defender. Seems mad, I could disable windows features had I wanted but not Adobe or Acronis. Thanks.
