Small Office Network

  jjmumford 14:49 10 Jul 2008

I have just moved to a new office and need to link my 2 laptops to a Desktop I want to use as a file Service and also to 2 printers that have USB connections only. I have Broadband and my router has 4 Ethernet connections.

Is there an easy way I can link all my kit so they all talk to each other ??

If the laptops are wireless, then your best route would be to purchase a wirless router / modem combination, WITH a USB port for the printer:

Connect the 3 computers to your router, and the printers to their respective machines.
Open Control Panel, Network Wizard, create a network disk, and load into each machine in turn, this will link them all together.
To see a file from one machine you will need to drag into the shared folder.
As you wish to use the Desktop as a server, make the whole drive(s) shared.

Load the software for each printer into both laptops and (if using as a computer) the Desktop.
Set each printer to shared.
They should now talk to each other.
