Slow(ish) burning with Nero 6

I've a new Evesham Athlon 64 3500-based PC with 2 x 250GB drives in Raid 0 configuration. In addition I have a couple of Sony OEM Burners - one for DVD (DW- D22A) and the other for CD (CRX230ED). It seems that the fastest that Nero reports that it will burn on either of these is 40x, but this actually gives patchy results on the CD writer (all the time). The DVD writer (so far) hasn't given me a problem. However, when I do a dry test run Nero reports that the fastest burn achievable is 32x on both of these drives because they can't get the data fast enough for anything quicker than this. Is it likely that my Raid 0 array is going to be too slow for either of these burners? What else could be going on to cause such a problem? On my old PC I could consistently achieve maximum burn speeds on the CD writer with absolutely no problems whatsoever - and that was with a bog-standard ATA66 hard disk.

I have a fast dvd writer and the maximum mine burns for cd's is also 32x

I think its software related to be honest
