Slow Startup on PC

  SEAWISE DAVE 21:09 17 Aug 2006

I have an Evesham PC with AMD Athlon 64 x 2 4200 processor. 1 Gb ram.
After the Windows Log on screen the machine takes up to 5 minutes before it is fully ready for use. During this time a McAfee scan and AOL Spyware program runs, but I do not know why it takes this time to fully start.
Any ideas or is this normal?

What Virus and Spyware programs do you have as well??

not normal - look in start - progs - startup and remove anything that is not needed at startup. Go to start - run - msconfig - top right hand tab startup. Take the tick out of everything other than firewall and virus checker etc. Things like office and various sound progs hog memory. After rebooting put tick in left hand box to not be told each time that you have altered the startup.
