Slow startup

A friend of mine has complained that her computer is very slow at startup and shut down. I have timed both these events and don't think them slow at all. The startup time is 35 seconds and shutown is 30 seconds. Do you think this is slow?

About par for the course I would say, I would dearly love a 35 second start up, mine takes about 90 -120 seconds.

For me, < a minute belongs to the days of a lean 98SE OS.

Just for your info - mine takes 4 minutes to complete start-up. I do have a lot of stuff on my hard drive, but I have trimmed my start-up to minimum. Shut-down takes just seconds.

Should have included - I have three running hard-drives.
