Slow Shutdown

There used to be a program for the Amiga which created a log of the shutdown sequence. Does anyone know of a similar program for the PC. My shut down time is extremely long.

dave - just a thought

do you have MS updates clicked on auto ? - if you have, they sometime take forever to download at shutdown - they seem to be on some repeat cycle - on one occasion it took overnight to shutdown - jarani

click here The link doesn't show you the shut down sequence or a program that does, what is does do is - hopefully - help you with how to shut down the system?

This may cure it:

1- Start/Run and type Regedit
3- Click on “Control”
4- Select “Wait to kill service timeout”
5- Right click and select “Modify”
6- Set to a lower value than 2000
7- A setting of 200 will be sufficient

Normal setting is 2000 but can safely be reduced to 200 for a quick shutdown. Sometimes in PCs, including my own, an extra nought is added on to make it 20000. Not sure why this happens but when it does it leads to a very long shutdown time.
