slow lap-top start-up

Hey all! This is Crespo requiring some expert advice from someone out there. My laptop of 10 months is starting to act up on me. It takes about 5 mins. to actually boot up & before i can open up my browser a dialogue box appears saying "dll application error".Windows then shuts down. When i try again about 5 mins later i can actually open up Internet Explorer after clicking on 1 or 2 times & after waiting for about 10 mins for it to open. This is far too slow. It's only a few months old & only gets used at night for about 1/2 hours for surfing & research. Anybody got any bright ideas on how to improve boot-up times & general pc speed/performance - e.g. tweaking utilities, optimizer utilities etc. - cos i am totally stumped. I'm a newbie by the way. Any help will be v. appreciated.Cheers. C.

Run a virus and spyware scan and remove any nasties.

Might be a good idea to back up and do a full format and reload of windows. I usually do this every 12 months to make sure my system is in peak condition.
