Slow Freecom ext Hardrive worries

  Demora 09:30 12 Dec 2009

For the past couple of weeks my external Hd has been really slow to respond when trying to access most of the files on there.

I am at the moment running 'scandisk' BUT this seems so slow.

Is there any free programme out there that will scan this drive any faster.

Also I don't trust another hdd that I occasionally plug into the pc. has a habit of not writing stuff to the drive.

PC is a home build: Asus Striker Extreme, Intel q6600, 4gig ram, ati radeon gfx and creative soundblaster. running win 7.

Any pointers please.

Try device manager and check you have an Enhanced driver for the USB, may be running at USB1.1 speed instead of USB2 (10 times slower).

External drives plugged into USB are always going to be slower than internal drive (until USB3 is finalised).

Hi Fruit Bat /\0/\ I have checked the device manager and the USBs' seem to be set to Standard Enhanced.

I have a feeling that there may be a bad sector on the drive, but ordinary scandisk takes ages.

I'm looking for something to actually scan the drive for any problems, that may get the job done sooner.
