Hi, ive got a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with Vista and a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop. The desktop is connected to my Netgear DG843G router with the ethernet cable and my download speed is only 1.5 meg. My laptop which is wireless is getting 6-7 meg, my line is an up to 8 meg. I dont understand why my desktop is so slow. I always scan with AVG,CCleaner,Spybot and superanti spyware. Im on XP sp3 with 2 gb of ram and my HD is 70% full.

Any help much appreciated.

run chkdsk

defrag hdd, defrag registry, defrag pagefile.

check all drivers are up to date.

run memtest86 to check memory is ok

smart test the hdd to ensure its not starting to fail.

What speed is the connection between the desktop and the router (hover mouse pointer over the network icon in the system tray to find out)?

Hi , I have the exact same problem . I've posted query on here a couple of days ago. I've also got a netgear router with slow wired desktop and fast wireless laptop ,PS3 and another desktop.
I'll try what has been suggested above if I can work out what it means.
Cheers
Nick

Im getting 54mbps, signal strength excellent and connected. I do have a netgear pci card in it with the ariel but when i unplug it it says network cable unplugged. Ive updated the firmware on the router and its not any different. I may have to get someone in to sort it.

Im not that savvy with pc`s, i tried the memtest but it was just going on about a floppy disc and windows cannot read it, god knows, well over my head.

cheers for the replys.
