Slow Broadband

  hugh144 15:53 22 Sep 2009

My broadband speed (Orangehome) via a Netgear router has slowed down (sometimes to a very slow crawl). If I try to load a page with loads of graphics eg BBC Homepage, it takes an age and sometimes it is impossible to open some websites. I've contacted Orange ( not much help) and Netgear who talked me through the router settings and that appears OK. Are there any settings on the PC that I need to tweak?

My PC is only 6 months old running Vista Home premium.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated or do I bite the bullet and change my ISP.

Have you tried Rebooting The Router

Sorry to be a pain - do you just mean switching it off and then on?

Hi Hugh

Line Stats are used to determine what actual speed your line is capable of supporting heres how to obtain your stats from the router:

There is a page within the router GUI that displays the line stats. Click the link below.

If you are prompted to login, the username is admin and the password is password.

When you get the line stats copy and paste what you see.

I had a similar problem with Orange-the speeds got slower and slower. Each time I called Orange, they claimed the fault was at my end or with BT. Having switch to o2 all the problem have gone, I get decent speeds and a cheaper monthly bill to boot.

My advise is that you dump Orange asap.
