Slow after Trojan Horse

I have a notebook which I use now and again, it has XP as an OS.
Just recently when starting up my antivirus ( Pandasoftware ) told me I'd had a virus, type Trojan Horse, which was now disinfected, I think the name started ' machine ' but I can't
remember the rest.
From then on it would take a minute to respond to a click and sometimes forget what it was doing and go back to the desktop.

I have done defrag and disc cleanup, I had already done a complete virus scan, I tried then to use System Restore, but after
three attempts, each time saying it could not restore, and also
each time I started up I had to log on, there has only ever been me as I live alone. I then went to Users and found another account with a strange name which I deleted along with it's files.

I think there may be corrupt files, but I'm not all that advanced
in computers.

Be glad of any help, gedr

It is possible that the virus was hiding in system restore.
If you right click My Computer / left click Properties / left click system Restore, / put a tick in turn of system restore to all drives / left click apply / left click OK / then run your anti virus again.
to be sure you can also run an online AV scan from here.
After doing this switch system restore back on by taking the tick out of the box.

When you switch system restore of you will lose all your restore points.
