A mate has a Dodgy hard drive and I have transplanted it into my computer as a slave to try and save some of his files. It is detected in the BIOS and is detected in device manager but without a letter assigned. It does not appear in my computer.I have checked the master/ slave jumpers/I have tried Master with Slave Present on the main drive,Its a Win 98SE systemThanks
You could try downloading a disk testing tool form the manufacturers web site and run that to confirm the current state. The one's I've used create a bootable floppy.Sounds like it's dead though.
have you got GoBack installed on either PC ??
have you reselected to "autodetect hard drives" in your systems BIOS..?
sorry, too many lagers today... ;)
Tried auto Detect and User Defined, SameHo Hum,
have you rebooted? your lastdrive isn't set to d or e is it?
Yep tried rebooting, The thing that puzzles me is that Both Master & Slave can be seen in Device Manager, but the slave has not been allocated a drive letter and you are unable to manually assign one.
any other suggestions?
have you checked disk management?
Can you see the Hdd in system properties ?
