I have installed Skype to use video calling. It starts automatically but I cannot find a way of setting it to manual. It is not in the msconfig list nor can I find it in services. Does anyone know how to change it?

In Skype go to Tools>Options in the first window that opens, untick the boxes as necessary.

Views - Skype or Classic Windows

Choose Skype
/ Options /General
Uncheck "Start Skype When I start Windows"

Hmm, that is how it should be! Have you clicked on Save at the bottom of that Options window?

Do you have the latest version which is 4.1.0.179?

yes it is that version and it is saved - at the moment I use win patrol to delay its start but as I use it very rarely I would like to control it. Perhaps its because I am using xp 64bit. When I had xp 32 bit I used msn messenger but that does not work with xp 64bit - ms own progs not working together.

Yes I guess 64bit could be behind it - question...why are you using 64bit anyway? Surely XP (which I also have) is better off with 32bit.

I have an asus mobo which clearly states use no more than 3GB with 32bit and I bought 4GB when I got it, before reading the manual and 64bit works like lightning with the 4GB.

Fair 'nuff, but as you already suspect, possibly the 64bit does affect Skype in some small way.

Thanks I shall just have to live with it and all credit to winpatrol plus to delay it.
