Sky + Recording

Hi, just been flicking through the manual and it says that you can record onto sky+ and then copy the recording onto video or DVD. Is it possible to copy onto a Sony handy cam ?

Hi, in theory it should be possible, after all a camcorder is nothing more than a vcr - as long as your cam has Line-in or DV in.

Hi thanks for getting back. Its got S-Video, A/v and something called LANC plus all the USB ports. Is the A/V the right one ?

Hi, it has DV

DV - but is it DV In or DV Out ... you need DV In.

What is the Model number of camcorder?

Its the Sony DCR-PC9E

So yes you can copy as per your first question, because that cam has DV Input as well as Composite Input/Output and S-Video Input/Output - so you have several options to play with.

By the way - LANC would come into play if you were doing video editing using hardware from someone like Videotech, this would allow the hardware to actually control the camcorder, like stopping/starting or moving the tape backwards/forwards as required, all automatically.

Another good hardware for video editing is the Pinnacle 400, though that particular model has probably been updated by now, so it may be the Pinnacle 500 or similar - but that definitely uses the LANC connection.
