Sky Broadband: Wireless

I've just formatted my brother's PC and re-installed his software. However 'Acquiring network address' is as far as I can get with his Internet connection. I've tried to access the router via 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 but no pages display. In Ipconfig, there are only zeroes and spaces in the key areas.

Please help.

What is the make and model of router that sky supply?

It's a Netgear - no model number apparent on it.

It's 192.168.0.1 with user name/password admin/sky. Works on all Sky routers. If you have ipconfig as you report you aren't connecting the router to the PC. Use LAN for the initial connection and then set up the WiFi.

I got it sorted last night by connecting an extended ethernet cable from a socket in the hall. This allowed me to get into the Netgear settings where I went up through the channels until finding that 5 worked.

(The funny thing is that wireless worked in the old channel with security removed.)

Thanks for all your time, comrades.
