sky broadband with phone extension

I just setup my nephew sky broadband. The desktop computer is in his daughters bedroom, with the phone socket in the living room 10m away. Using a 10m extension cable it was unable to connect to the internet, but connecting it straight to the phone socket it worked fine. My nephew phoned sky and they said it wouldn't work with a extension. I'm thinking of using a 10m ethernet cable from the modem to the computer i think that will be ok.
Is anyone using a phone extension cable to use sky in another room and will a 10m ethernet cable be ok

I don't know about the phone cable but the 10m ethernet cable will be fine.

I use Sky BB (and my previous BB ISP) with a 10M extention lead to the back of the TV (SKY+ boxes) and then another pone lead to the router/phone.

It does cost me about 1 Meg in speed but I can't have my router plugged directly into the phone socket due to the master socket position.

It's not ideal but it does show that those who seem to know the least about Sky BB are Sky themselves.
