I've just re-installed Windows xp on a friends computer, after a graphics card failure and virus. On reconnecting the modem via the ethernet cable,it shows it's connected at 400mbps,but I still can't get the net working. I tried the network setup, running the setup CD and all the other machines log on ok.What am I doing wrong? The setup cd say's check connectins and lights but they're ok,but it will not connect to the net.Help

Have you also turned off your firewall and antivirus whilst installing.

hi horsethief.....
check the status of the lan connection .
it may not be getting a correct ip address from the router should be in the range ...depending on how many other pcs connected via ethernet ...
most likely cause would be lan drivers .
update to latest from motherboard makers site,if it is onboard lan
also check the browser is set to check lan for connection .....Dave

It seemed the onboard Lan was disabled, enabled it and now on the net.Did find out though Spyware Bot was causing more spyware.
