hi

my dad will be getting a laptop at christmas
and wants to connect it to my pc via a wireless
router.

he would like to know if my pc has to be switched
on to enable him to use the internet connection on his laptop?

sorry for the silly question, but i am not sure on
this one!

cheers

No it won't require switching on because you'll be using a wireless router which is effectively the gateway to the internet. Without the wireless router you would have to leave yours switched on. (and no it's not a silly question ;-)

Just incase you've got the term 'wireless router' mixed up with wireless adaptor' here's what you'll need.

For a wireless internet connection for your dad's laptop, you will need:

A wireless equipped laptop (some have wireless built in (centrino) and some don't, in the case of the latter you will need to purchase a wireless adapter)

A wireless router.

A length of lan cable, so you can have a direct 'wired' connection on your desktop.
