Shutdown using scheduled tasks

I have selected Scheduled tasks on XP Pro to run Shutdown.exe at a specific time, it doesn't do as it says on the tin!

Is there some reason it won't run the shutdown file and shut it down? If there were a batch file which ran the shutdown.exe and that were placed as a scheduled task, would this work?

That looks exactly the thing that I am looking for, thanks for that Dennis. Will give it a try tonight.

So I have the solution to the problem but still non the wiser as to why the shutdown.exe doesn't run in scheduled tasks - but so long as I have the solution that is the main thing.
