I am runing home XP and it is taking for ever to shutdown.I have read previous thread but can not run regedit 2.

Anti-virus software sometimes slows shutdown to a crawl so I would check that first.

Try going through msconfig as well to trim you startup (so there are less programs to terminate when you shutdown)

Also consider a scandisk and defrag, XP writes everything in memory back to hard drive before shutdown if you hard drive is a mess it will take longer to write it back to hard drive.

Cheers, Mav
