Shutdown Problem

Looking for your some help, if poss. When I try and shutdown, my computer freezes after a few seconds. I end up having to unplug the power. If I do a disc cleanup first, it is more likely to shutdown normally. It's a normal desktop, Windows XP.

It is often a program or external drive that causes this problem. If you have any external drives plugged in take them out. Also look and see which programs are running when you shutdown, and try closing all programs before shutting down then if this is the case you can narrow it down.
Norton may be one possibility.
