Shut Down time too long

My Dell Inspiron 6400 will not shut down and sits for hours just shutting down. What could the problem be?

This may cure it:

1- Start/Run and type Regedit
2- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CURRENT CONTROL SET/CONTROL
3- Click on “Control”
4- Select “Wait to kill service timeout”
5- Right click and select “Modify”
6- Set to a lower value than 2000
7- A setting of 200 will be sufficient

Normal setting is 2000 but can safely be reduced to 200 for a quick shutdown. Sometimes in PCs, including my own, an extra nought is added on to make it 20000. Not sure why this happens but when it does it leads to a very long shutdown time.

Just changed the value on mine (Vista HB) from 20000(!!!!) to 200 as it also took ages to shut down.

Will see how it goes.

Have changed mine to 200 (from 20000) (XP pro mce)
It is a lot better now - I had been wondering why it was so sluggish to shut down. Many, many thanks.

Many thanks.
Changed XP Home from 20000 and much faster now.

Mine was quick once and then it has slowed down again, and on some occasions will not shut down until I hit the on/off button. Any more suggestions, please let me know. thanks
