I'm running Windows XP home edition and have recently encountered a problem. Everytime I log off or shut down I get a message "End program sprtcmd.exe " I am advised I may lose any unsaved data if I close or end now. Any advice on how to clear this is appreciated

I think you may have a Dell computer. If so, this may help:

As buteman says, or you may want to give the User Profile Hive Clean-Up Service a try:

Alternatively, you may want to stop Dell Support from running, rather than uninstalling it. This can be done using the AutoStart Manager of RevoUninstaller (freeware) :

Thanks to all three of you. Will give all your advice a go

I have the same problem; the computer will not shut down unless I click on "End Now", and this means that my AVG updates can never be installed as they require a restart and this route wipes out the updates before they can be effected.
I do not have a Dell computer.
