In the throes of preparing to replace this computer with a new box, but anxious not to "let go both ends".Have cloned a smaller primary HD so that this old computer will still compute if the new one (due today) throws a wobbly.Still the same arrangement 2 internal HDs both partitioned plus a USB external HDSame XP Pro, all working as it should except....When the External HD is switched it allots itself a drive letter between the two internal HDs so that the Secondary HD has its drive letters all moved along one letter. Not critical, just a nuisance, but did not happen before I meddled. Is there a simple way to fix drive letters so that when the external HD is switched on it takes the last drive letter before the optical drives as it used to do?
Why and howclick here
*Why* is more important to me than *How* to make changes. I like to have a glimmer of understanding.Have checked in Disk Manager that:-Primary HD is NTFS with C: set activeSecondary HD is FAT32 all logical partitions.External HD is NTFS and a single logical partition. This arrangement behaved before I meddled. With the invaluable help of Acronis the only change was to remove the last partition on the Primary, giving more space to the remaining ones.
