shrinking mp3's?

i am trying to send an mp3 song via text message to a friend for a birthday ringtone. when i get to the bit to send it , it says the file is too big. how can i shrink it so it will go?

What phone mothercranky ? if a Sony there is a setting that can be changed to send bigger messages.

Download Xillisoft RM Converter. Convert it from MP3 to MP3, and it will set it automaticly to 192kbs. This is the quality and for a phone there is no difference.

if you make an MP3 smaller in size, you do understand you will lose a lot of data encoded in it, and the mp3 itself will sound less clear and crisp. 128kbps is generally not very distinguishable on a phone speaker, but any lower than that, and you'll start to turn the track into a bit of a muddy mess...
