My computer is running on Windows XP. When connected to internet no icon displayed on bottom status bar. Not prompted to disconnect. Can anybody advise how to show connection icon in the tool bar or force disconnect notice

control Panel/Network Connections/ click properties on the general tab then at the bottom of the subsequent dialog box there is a check box for "show icon in the notification area"

Try Dial-up Networking (in Windows98 it is in Start - Programs - Accessories - Communications), Connections - Settings. There should be a tick in the box for "Show an icon on taskbar after connected".
