shortcut conundrum

  stileguru 22:51 11 Feb 2011

XP professional, Office 2003.
Created shortcuts for various Access (mdb) files on desktop. Double click a shortcut to open file. File opens Ok, but with a message 'Windows cannot find file XXX. Make sure you typed the file etc etc.....'
If I navigate to the folder where the files are and doble-click the actual file to open it directly, there is no Windows error message. MDE files, for which there are also shortcuts, are not affected, nor are any other Office files.
Anyone have an explanation?

It would seem that the shortcuts have become corrupted for some reason. I would suggest deleting them, and then create new shortcuts by right-clicking on the actual files.

I have tried deleting and re-creating new shortcuts the way you suggest, but the problem persists.

It will work if you right click on them and drag to where you want, then let go and choose create shortcut.
PS you can drag onto Start Button or desktop etc
