Sharing Printers on a Network without a PC

I want to be able to access my networked printers, which are attached to my office PC, without the PC being on. Is there a way of connecting the printers directly to the network via a USB? I have a home network using XP and Vista, for file and printer sharing. Also, one of the printers is an old serial plug, can this be adapted to USB?

Thanks in advance fo any help given.

An adaptor similar to this will do the job: click here - if you search on 'network printer adapter' you will see a number of options but the cost could mount up for a number of printers.

Serial adapters do exist - look for RS232/ethernet adaptors but these are more expensive and only really justified against a really good printer.

You could also use a dedicated 'printer server' but this does mean all your printers need to be in the same place. A cheap alternative to this is to set up an old computer for the task.
