Thanks
octal had a try at the PCLOS forums but no joy. not having a good day today really, bought two new 1Gb memory modules of eBay, tried to fit them to day and they won't work so had to go back to my old 2x 512MB modules. new i should have bought from crucial but tried to save a few quid hence the delay in the reply
