shared computer; can they affect each other?

  p;3 14:24 16 Feb 2007

computer has two people who , after windows loads up,then log into their individual profile;
as far as I know it has not been Partitioned but merely set up for individaul log ins

when I had previous dealings with a shared computer I could not read his profile nor he mine ;

my query is;if one of them logged in and managed to mess things up I am assuming that that will affect both profiles if a nasty manages to get on board?

Yes virus and malware can/will affect the whole PC not just one profile.

yes, it can and probably will, infect the whole system.

if the usual scanners are put on there on one profile will they appear and can be run on both?

My win XP is on a cable modem. Is it possible to connect my old win98 PC also to this modem, via USB cable, to enable access to the internet ? I do not have a network card in the old PC.

sorry about that . I sent it by mistake on the wrong thread. Please ignore

Do you mean if user "A" does a scan, will it show up the nasties in user "B's" files?

yes, it should. Though you may need to get certain permissions to eradicate them.
