SFC - System File Configuratuion

I'd like to check my SFC using the CMD sfc/scannow. However my laptop contains a version of XP Home on a hidden partition or I have a Recovery DVD that probably conatins an XP image rather than a retail version of XP. Anyone know how I can run SFC/SCANNOW effectively (I'm sure many many users have these limitations).

Interestin link VoG! Not simple (what is with Windows) but I'll give it a try after backing up my Registry!

The command to run Windows File Protection should be typed as:

sft /scannow

Note the space.

Correction the command is

sfc /scannow

Have a look on your hard drive do you have an i386 folder?

If you do then sfc will probably work ok.

Sorry for the literal...:-)

I do have an i386 folder on my C:/ drive. In the past sfc /scannow has worked without the need for a CD but now it is demanding I insert my XP installation CD.
