Several games will no longer run on my PC

The ganmes are all originals. They've been installed before on the same hardware, and ran without problems. I've tried fresh installs of each of them. My hard drive is fully defragged. I have installed the latest drivers for my GPU, and the latest codecs for my audio.

My system (any other data required?):-

WIndows XP SP3 OS
MSI 6701 motherboard
Pentium 4 2.66 socket 478 CPU
1GB PC2700 RAM
nVidia 7900GS AGP GPU
Realtek AC97 audio

The games (so far!):-

Medal of Honor Allied Assault Warchest (Both the original and both expansion packs crash during start-up)
Risk II (freezes on the start-up screen)
Act of War (Crashes on start-up)

Some other games work okay (eg Unreal Tournament). Word, Outlook Express etc. run okay.

Could this problem be down to WIndows updates? Or is it completely unrelated?

what happens.

I'm thinking my only option is a clean install of XP.

Is anyone out there?

i would hazard a guess that there is some software on your pc that these programs identify as unfriendly to digital rights management.

i had similar experiences without solution. i then read an article some time back about drm and how software publishers cope. this was but one method.

what that software might be i wouldn't know.

Have you got any errors / warnings in Event Viewer?

Uninstalled K-Lite Codec Pack. Risk II now works.
