Hello,
Each time I start my computer I receive a message stating:
Invalid configuration information, please use setup.
Performing automatic IDE configuration.
Select F1 to continue or F2 to run setup.

When I select F2 and reset the date, time and press esc as instructed the system boots and works normally until I switch on next time and then I receive the same message, if I select F1 the system boots normally then I have to reset the time and date in Windows. However, the problem occurs every time I switch on. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

You either need a new Motherboard CMOS battery or the Clear CMOS jumper is in the clear CMOS, rather than run position

PS the jumper is near the CMOS battery. Three pins Jumper covering two

Thank you Johnny and Woodchip, the os is XP pro sp 3 and the computer was bought in 2003, Dell 4600. you are probably correct in your daignosis. I will get a new battery and update you. Thank you both for your speedy and considered response.
