SETUP HANGS

I had to reformat an hdd believed to be in a bad shape, then I started reinstalling Win98SE. When it started, the "Preparing to Start Win98 Setup" window came up as usual. The progress indicator went up to 90% and then stopped moving. I moved the mouse pointer and it moved. I shut down and started the installation again. This time the indicator only went up to 50% and it stopped again. I started again and it reached 31%, and then 28%. I can see a downward trend here. What do I do? Reformat the drive again? What exactly is going on? Do I need a new hdd? Please advise. Thanx.

what make is the hard drive? go to the manufacturers website and download their utility for checking the condition of the disk - ot can usually be extracted to a bootable dos floppy which will check the drive when you boot.

Hdd make is QUANTUM.

must be a very old drive then!
