I work for a small company and we would like to run our own web server. We are considering this option rather than using a hosting company as we have a database that is currently accessed using Windows programs and is also linked to accounts. We want our website to take customer orders (accessing stock levels). We are currently using Windows XP Pro and our web development is in ASP.NET.I would appreciate it if someone could explain the steps that would be required to set this up, plus any pitfalls to look out for.Thanks.
Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks.
you need to seek a CISCO or Network professional becuase setting up a server yourself is a very insecure option and you could find yourself in a lot of trouble, as I know from experiance.Regards,Gareth
click here this is a veritable minefield when you have to consider the security especially for you company and it's customers details.
Thanks for your help. Do you know whether it's possible to do this using XP Pro (rather than Apache)?
You could use IIS which is in XP pro, but it wouldnt handle the ammount of traffic.I'd go with apache really, most sites use it.
Oh, and apache can be simply installed on the machine running XP.
Thanks Gaz. Do you know who I should contact to get an IP Address?
