Set up a PC for free legally.

  Belatucadrus 15:55 07 Apr 2003

This posting isn't a request for help, it's more something I hope will be of help. I will be going over old ground for some of you, but for those that don't know, the internet contains a resource library of free programs, some are old versions released by the suppliers, some are slightly cut down versions of commercial programs and others are the work of charitable souls who just want to share their brainchild with the world. The result of this is that it's possible to set up a Home PC with pretty much everything you'll need for nothing and it's all quite legal. Many of these downloads are pretty big so if you don't have broadband I'd recomend you start with a download manager like Download Express click here or Leechget click here , they will ensure you don't lose anything if you lose your link at any point. Have a look and consider how much it would cost to buy the equivalent name brand products.

Is this Linux OS compatible with Microsoft software.

If not then a lot of searching would be needed to setup all the computer software. Unless there is an easy source.

Excellent information and links, very useful for everyone but especialy those new to computing. It will have taken you quite some time to provide all this. Well done and thanks. J.

Audeal, Linux software isn't Windows compatible, though there is a significant library of suitable software available, for example if you check out the Open office suite you will see they also have a linux version available to download. Not being a Linux user, I've confined myself to Windows OS software.
( Anybody wanting to explain Lindows be my guest )
