I need help! Is there anyone out there who can help me??

I treated myself to a Samsung SH-S203 DVD writer which has a serial ATA interface. My motherboard is microstar K72NG-ILSR which has 2 Serial ATA ports. I downloaded the ATA driver on to my PC(XP Pro) before installing the hardware then whilst booting up I noticed the driver was installed but then the PC froze for about a minute before continuing booting up. I checked the hardware device and noticed the hardware is not recognised.
There was no software for the hardware.
DFoes anyone have a solution to my problem or is it because my motherboard is old hat??

Enabled SATA controller in the BIOS?

Checked to see if your board supports SATA and SATA2? The drive may have jumpers to keep it at SATA1 speeds (150mb/s), optical drives don't even get near that so it may not. Check the board is set to SATA1 if necessary.
