security implications of hosting games

My son wants to host Warcraft III games on his PC which is on our home network. He says that all this means is configuring Netgear to open the particular port this hosting uses. Would this have any serious implications for my PC's security and would it lead to an increase in bandwidth usage above normal his usual internet game playing?

Hi, I think we have had this question before and the answer is the ports are only open when you are playing the game so there is very little security threat,

Thanks for that. It puts my mind at rest somewhat - though these games seem to go on for a long time...
